This is a great little escape from Jakarta on the weekend, very easy to get to and has plenty to do for everyone at all levels of fitness. This area hosts plenty of small shops along the route for you to relax, get some food and enjoy a coffee beside the beautiful waterfalls.
You can take your car here however once you get past Sentul and onto the back road, it’s pretty horrific. If you have a small car or toyota avanza type car, your suspension is going to take a pounding.
If you have a big car like a people carrier / Alphard, you’re going to be crying trying to squeeze past the other traffic without doing damage to your car. The ideal vehicle here is a 4x4, Toyota Fortuner, Hilux, Pajero or something; if you have the choice of course, if not, just be careful.
Difficulty level 1 - pretty much anyone can do this. If you wish to trek up to the top of the mountain you will of course need some level of fitness, but here you don’t need to carry a big bag full of water and food, as there’s plenty of warungs here.
If you choose to camp here just be aware of people from the village coming to steal your bags or shoes during the night. This happened to us and later we found out from the people there that it happens quite often. So if you’re going to camp here, make sure you bring all your belongings inside the tent
This whole area is a well beaten track and path, there’s no need at all to hire a guide as it’s impossible to get lost.
Phone Signal:- Yes and No, it’s on and off depending on where you are.
There are around 3-4 different waterfalls here for you to swim and have fun in, each one has a coffee shop and seats with tables for you to relax in.
The whole area is one big giant loop so if you keep walking straight, you’ll eventually come back to the start and the car park. You could probably complete the whole thing in about 6hrs and that includes stopping to swim, eat and drink.
Life jackets are there for hire should you need them
Here the fees are around 25k per person, and you’ll also get more fees of 10k to 15k as you move on to each waterfall which is normal, so don’t think someone’s trying to bump you out of more cash, there is a charge at each waterfall for the upkeep.
If you wish to camp here overnight the charge is 100k per person for “Bule” and less for locals of course.
This usually closes during the wet season but CAN OPEN during it, if it’s safe enough so be sure to check online first. I’ll also include the whats app number for one of the park rangers that you can contact.
Park ranger: (He only speaks Bahasa so you can google translate to contact him)
Name - Away
Telephone number :- 0062 815 7412 4897
During the rainy season the waterfalls are far too heavy and strong to swim in, and in turn, very dangerous; so please take care. If you insist on going in, that’s on you!
Perfect little getaway from Jakarta and not too far at all. Anyone with any level of fitness can have a good time here with friends or family and camping here is great, just remember to bring all your stuff inside.
There’s plenty of wild fruit and coffee trees here to educate the kids and let them taste the fruits along with wild Durian, Have a great time, Enjoy!
